RI 2020 Cocoa Production Reaches 2 Million Tons

Indonesian cocoa production in 2020 is projected to reach 2 million tons. Currently cocoa production hit a new 600,000 tons, or was in third position after the Ivory Coast and Ghana. With production of 2 million tonnes, Indonesia could be ranked first.

Vice Minister of Commerce Krisnamurthi told Kompas, Sunday (18/12/2011), say, the more prospective business with the inclusion of cocoa beans as a commodity traded on the Jakarta Futures Exchange.

Not only that, hilirisasi booming cocoa industry after the government implemented a customs exit for cocoa beans.

It is estimated installed capacity of cocoa and chocolate industry nationwide in the next four years will be jumped to 950,000 tons compared to today's 580,000 ton range.

"Customs exit proved to be effective to stimulate domestic processing industry. Going forward, we will apply the customs exit for other commodities," he said.
