Michel Platini slams Alex Ferguson

President of UEFA, Michel Platini, blasted Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson, after he seemed to shrink the Europa League. Ferguson described the entry of his team into the Europa League is a 'punishment' after failing to advance to the Champions League knockout rounds.

"The world does not shrink the UK. I like English football and they're great. Football is fantastic and they are great supporters,''said Platini.''But, do not criticize the Europa League place only because the previous entry in three Champions League finals.''

Fergie, Ferguson familiar greeting, failed to advance to the Champions League last 16 for the first time. Squad who nicknamed the Red Devils were knocked out after a surprise 1-2 defeat of FC Basel on Wednesday. Manchester United's previous success forward to the Champions League final in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Platini assess the Europa League as exciting as the Champions League.

"Competition is a competition Europa League brilliant. It's very interesting. I know Ferguson masters prefer to play in the Champions League, but not all clubs have that opportunity," he said.
