Canada pulls out of Kyoto Protocol
Canada declared officially withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol, the only international agreement that set clear reduction targets of greenhouse gas emissions, on Monday (12/12/2011) local time. Under the agreement, Canada are required to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 6 percent from 1990 emission levels by 2012. Rather than meet this target, carbon emissions from Canada have increased dramatically. Last year alone, emissions of this gas in the country has increased 35 percent compared to 1990 emission levels.
"To meet the target set by the Kyoto Protocol in 2012, we had to get rid of all cars, trucks, ATV (all terrain vehicles), tractors, ambulances, police cars, and all types of vehicles from the streets of Canada, or we should close all the sectors of agriculture and agrokultur and reduce the heating system in all homes, offices, hospitals, factories, and all other buildings in Canada, "said Kent.
With the retreat of the Kyoto Protocol, Canada freed from the obligation to pay a fine of 14 billion Canadian dollars (about Rp 123.23 trillion).
